You Only Get One…Black Girl Nation

The older we get as women, the more we need to realize the importance of taking care of our bodies. Eating healthy and exercising isn’t always easy but it’s something that must take priority in our lives. According to goredforwomen.org, “The African-American population also tends to have higher rates of obesity and diabetes, which puts them at greater risk for high blood pressure and heart disease.” As black women there are plenty of diseases that we are genetically prone to and get at much higher rates. Scary isn’t it?

Incorporating exercise in your everyday life is a good way to get started. Even if it’s just thirty minutes a day, getting more exercise in your life can do wonders. “Regular exercise helps prevent or manage a wide range of health problems and concerns, including stroke, metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes, depression, a number of types of cancer, arthritis and falls (mayoclinic).” Find ways to get yourself moving. Whether it’s joining a gym, or signing up for a dance class, there are plenty of different ways to incorporate more physical activity in your life.

The important thing to remember is that you only get one body. If you don’t take care of the first one there isn’t a store on this earth where you can go and buy a second one. That’s it. You only get one so it’s important to take better care of the only one you have.
